Mommy's Corner
Thanksgiving isn't the only time when you should encourage children to count their blessings. Try to foster appreciation of what they have regularly so they will be grateful for everyday things.
If you have a picky eater, make him something he's sure to enjoy: a "turkey" peanut butter sandwich. Use a hand-shaped cookie cutter to cut one piece of bread, smear it with peanut butter and decorate to resemble a turkey using red jam for the wattle, raisins for eyes, and different colored jams or pieces of dried fruits to transform the fingers into feathers.
Try laminating a set of place mats so they can be used throughout the month and again next Thanksgiving. Children feel proud when something that they've created is used year after year, becoming part of the family ritual.
Thanksgiving Parade - Use a wooden spoon and the bottom of a small metal pot for a drum. Turn on some music and let your child march around the room while beating the drum. Take turns playing the drum. Vary the tempo of the drum beat as you march. Watch a Thanksgiving Day parade on television.
